Very soon on PC, (and quickly after on Xbox One and Playstation 4) we will be introducing a new Starship feature that will allow captains to apply additional capabilities to their favorite starships, pushing their performance to new heights. This system, called “Experimental Upgrades” will allow T6 and T5-U Starships to be upgraded beyond their current limits, adding new equipment slots and other options to any upgraded ship that you take into battle. Experimental Upgrades can be applied by visiting any Ship Selector location, which are found in most starbases and social zones, and will make use of a new token called “Experimental Starship Upgrade Tokens.” These tokens will be found in numerous places throughout Star Trek Online, allowing captains multiple methods of obtaining the materials they need to push their starships’ performance capabilities beyond the stars. From October 6th to November 5th, anyone can claim one of these tokens per account in the Space Items section of the Zen Store for free! New Capabilities The Experimental Upgrade unlocks several new options for your favorite starships. Let’s take a look at how: Upon application of an Experimental Upgrade to the T6 or T5-U starship of your choice, that starship class will receive the following additional capabilities: ·         +1 Device Slot ·         +1 Universal Console Slot ·         +1 Starship Trait Slot (only active on ships that have had an Experimental Prototype Upgrade applied) A cosmetic upgrade will also occur, altering the name of your ship’s class to append a “-X” designation to its current class name, indicating that an eXperimental upgrade has been applied to that ship’s class. "92,143 dead." Commander Burgess looked about the small conference theatre as he repeated the number for the third time. "But a drop in the bucket compared to the lives the Hobus supernova claimed. A loss of life that we were prepared to save until suddenly... we weren't." The room was thick with discomfort. Some of the officers in the room had been children, or not even born yet when the Synth attack on Mars occurred some 26 years prior. "A butterfly effect, if you will." Burgess pivoted. "Pure coincidence? Or the cornerstone of a grand strategy?" He looked about the room. A freshfaced lieutenant raised his hand. Burgess acknowledged him. "Commander, I believe it was a grand strategy. The Synth attack was orchestrated by a Romulan covert operations branch; its primary goals were to stall or outright eliminate research of synthetic lifeforms by the Federation in addition to crippling the Starship manufacturing yards at Utopia Planitia." Burgess nodded, then responded, "But at the cost of countless millions of Romulan lives?" The lieutenant seemed less sure of himself. A Vulcan commander raised her hand. Burgess called upon her. "Commander N'mor?" The Vulcan stood, addressing the young lieutenant. "Lieutenant Castillo's assessment is factually correct, but flawed in its logic. The Zhat Vash regarded the destruction of the relief vessels being prepared to evacuate their own citizens from the Hobus cluster as acceptable losses given their primary goal. The lieutenant's assessment, however, of the crippling of the Utopia Planitia shipyards is incorrect. Delaying or outright abandoning of all research into the development of synthetic lifeforms was their only goal. All other ramifications of their actions were deigned acceptable as they did not impede that primary goal. My assessment, thus, is that the correlation between the loss of life on Mars from the Synth attack, and the subsequent loss of life in the Hobus supernova is, as you put it, a 'butterfly effect'. Not unanticipated, the Romulans are too precise for that, but not the design of a grand strategy either." Burgess nodded and Commander N'mor once again sat. Lieutenant Castillo's face was a mix of discomfort, embarassment, and sadness. The very emotions felt by the whole of the Federation on April 5th, 2385. "Thank you Commander, Lieutenant. A succinct analysis of the incident that sadly took nearly 15 years for the Federation to suss out. Why so long? Because we were blinded by emotion, confused by logic, and reacting rather than acting. To put a finer point on it - We forgot our history." Burgess continued, "The combined cultures of the Federation all have sordid pasts, chockful of any number of cautionary tales that would have fit this precise narrative." He pounded a fist onto the podium in front of him, not out of anger, but to make a sound other than his voice that better represented this last point; frustration and shame. "We knew better. We knew better and yet... we still failed ourselves and each other." He shook his head and looked about the room. "We still know better, and that means we can do better." He turned to the display behind him which now filled with charts and images of Mars and the orbital shipyards over Utopia Planitia, circa 2385. "To this end, Starfleet has tasked me with running this simulation of the Synth attack on Mars. I will not mince words here. This is not a battle you can win. But it's not a battle you must lose either. The goal of this training is to give you a critical piece of history to carry with you in your heart, rather than just as a number in your mind. Maybe then, when the next tragedy strikes, our grand strategy will be up to the task of countering the waves of the butterfly effect from doing more damage." Burgess gave an uncommon smile to the assembled officers. "Your task force assignments will be issued upon arrival to your holodecks. You are dismissed."   Starfleet is conducting training simulations of the infamous Synth attack on Mars in the hopes that history will never be forgotten nor that terrible day repeated. As part of the continuing training programs of the Khitomer Alliance, they have opened this simulation to Klingon, Romulan Republic, and Jem’Hadar Captains as well. As part of our upcoming content release, from October 6th to November 5th, PC Captains playing Star Trek Online will have access to a special event: The Widening Gyre. This new event will provide participating Captains with an epic reward, the Imperial Rift Space Set. Read on to find out more about the event and its rewards. Event Progress Participating in this event grants daily progress towards the Grand Prize: The Imperial Rift Space Set. Obtaining the Imperial Rift Space Set requires 20 daily progress, and Captains can earn one daily progress per account per day by playing either the brand new episode or brand new Task Force Operation in our upcoming content release (more details on that, soon!). Once Captains have obtained 20 daily progress on their account, they can claim the Imperial Rift Space Set. After that, the event will still be playable, granting a scaling Dilithium reward that begins at 8,000 Dilithium Ore and scales by 1,000 Dilithium Ore for every day you participate in the event, up to a cap of 50,000 Dilithium Ore per day. Captains will also have the option to purchase their remaining progress in the event with Zen. The price for this buyout will prorate, based on the amount of progress a Captain has completed.   The Imperial Rift Space Set Previously in House Divided, the Klingon Empire descended into Civil War, the opening days of which saw the deployment of a brutal new weapon of war: the Mycelial Rift. Details of the event are hotly debated by those accused of the act, but the technology involved is less subjective. Numerous advances in subspace particle physics were required to direct the multi-dimensional emissions involved in these rifts, and the kit built from this research is formidable in its own right. These devices, taken together, allow a ship to open its own weaponized Mycelial Rifts. Revolutionary Gear Each of the pieces of the Imperial Rift Space Set provides its own special bonuses. The Deflector Array captures excess power used from Beam or Cannon firing modes and shunts it into Control Expertise and Starship Particle Generators. The Impulse Engines pair nicely with them, enabling Control based Bridge Officer abilities to improve Weapon Amplification. The Warp and Singularity cores improve Auxiliary power capacity, and the Shield Array improves Energy Weapon damage based on Auxiliary power. All of these pieces of gear improve other elements of ship performance, but they really shine when combined. 2 pieces Improves Damage Resistance Rating vs foes in the forward arc, improves ship turn rate, and increases Exotic Damage Critical Severity based on Starship Weapon Amplification. 3 pieces Enables “Weaponized Mycelium Emitter”. After charging for several seconds, this deals severe Radiation damage to foes in front of you and creates a Rift, which deals additional Kinetic Damage. 4 pieces Augments the Mycelium Emitter, increasing the damage and duration of the Rift and gives it a chance to manifest allied Elachi Ships. Additionally, having all four pieces improves Critical Chance and Starship Hull Capacity.   This is a special event for our next content drop, and is not part of an Event Campaign. Cryptic Studios, the makers of Champions Online, Star Trek Online, Neverwinter, and the upcoming Magic: Legends, is proud to announce their collaboration with the Oakland-based nonprofit organization Gameheads. Gameheads uses video game design, development, and DevOps to engage, prepare and train low-income youth and youth of color ages 15 to 24 in the Bay Area for careers in the tech and video game industries. Through a powerful medium that youth are familiar with and passionate about, students learn how to code, design, manage projects, work in teams, lead, and create interactive projects that tell important and enriching stories. Along the way, Gameheads students are graduating from high school, getting into college to pursue STEAM-related degrees, and securing paid internships and full- time employment at top tech companies across the Bay. The Year of Klingon continues its rise to glory. Beginning with our June update, House Divided, we announced the Year of Klingon as an initiative where both our main story would focus on Klingon content, and we would take the time to update the early Klingon experience to modern standards. All this, while still keeping up new content and items for other factions across the board. As we get closer to our next update, it’s time to talk about the next round of updated Klingon content. The second part of the Year of Klingon focuses on the story arc “Warzone.” This story continues your journey with Alexander, Worf’s son, who is living a new life as K’mtar. The missions in this arc have been streamlined, given all new environments, new cutscenes, and new character art. The Ketha region of Qonos has been given an updated mission flow, to help guide you to your next destination. In addition, Lady Sirella’s model has been completely reworked, and will be voiced by her original actress, Shannon Cochran.   The environments of Forcas and Gorath have both been completely updated with a much sleeker, Klingon look. On Forcas, as part of a completely updated map, you’ll do battle in a fully updated Bat’leth ring:     While Gorath, the stronghold of House Torg, is our second completely updated map. It has a totally new throne room that’s perfect for your screenshot needs:     And finally, Klingon Female characters have received several brand new complexion options, that give those characters a higher definition look. The entire Galaxy is going to Red Alert! Next week, we’re launching a new week-long event, called the Galactic Red Alert. From 9/29 @ 8am PT (17:00 CEST) – 10/6 @ 10am PT (19:00 CEST), all of our Red Alert events will be returning at once on PC, as the Final Frontier is caught in a massive invasion on all sides. During this event, you’ll be able to play the following content: Borg Red Alert Elachi Red Alert Tholian Red Alert Tzenkethi Red Alert* Nakuhl Red Alert   *Please note: As the only Red Alert with a fail condition, the Tzenkethi Red Alert will not grant daily bonus progress if you fail the TFO. The fail condition will likely be removed in future runs of this event. In addition to their usual rewards, these Task Force Operations will also grant daily bonus progress. You’ll receive one Daily Progress each day for completing one Red Alert – doesn’t matter which one – on any character on your account. After you receive five daily progress, you’ll be rewarded with a package containing the following, once per account: An Ultimate Tech Upgrade A Specialization Point   You can also purchase this Grand Prize on the events page, if you’d prefer. The price will be prorated as you earn Daily Progress, becoming cheaper the more you play. If you earn, or purchase, the event’s Grand Prize, you can still complete Red Alerts to earn Bonus Progress. No matter where your adventure in the Final Frontier takes you, one thing is always true: Reputation is everything. You’ve done the work to advance your Reputation with your allies across the quadrants, but you want to do more. That opportunity is presenting itself to you, Captains, with our all new Reputation Purchase system. Tier 5 Reputation Buyouts will become available to Captains on PC with an update this week, and very soon after to Captains on Xbox One and Playstation 4. You’ll notice a new button in the Reputation window, allowing you the option to spend Zen to complete any Reputation up to Tier 5. The starting price for this service is 3000 Zen, but it will decrease in price depending on how much of the Reputation’s XP you’ve already earned. Once you’ve made this purchase, your character will instantly advance to Tier 5 in the reputation, with all of the Tier Advancement Projects automatically completing, and instantly gain access to the projects that are unlocked from Tier 1 – Tier 5. As is sometimes the case, you may need to move to a different map for your Traits to automatically appear. This is not affecting the way Reputations work normally – you will still be able to finish any Reputation up to Tier 5 by earning XP and Marks in the traditional way. In order to advance to Tier 6 in a Reputation, you will still need to earn XP and Marks as before. It’s time for another Ships of the Line Bundle! There are a lot of ships in the galaxy that have multiple tiers available, and we want to make it easier to get your hands on every version of your favorite starships. This time, it’s the Nebula Class! A heroic ship that made many appearances in Star Trek, including battles against the Borg and engagements in the Dominion War, the Nebula is a fan favorite that deserves a time to shine. General: Resolved an issue that caused the Special Requisitions Pack - Inquiry Battlecruiser [T6] to be incorrectly bound to character. This will retroactively unbind packs that were previously obtained. Updated the description on the Inquiry Battlecruiser [T6] Resolved an issue that was preventing the Post-Summer Event (and associated Lobi Buyout) from being accessible to players. This option will be available until 11/3/20. Resolved an issue that was allowing some Ground Combat Pet items to be used without being equipped. These items should all require being equipped in a Device Slot in order to be activated. Resolved an issue that caused some of the active abilities on the Ground Special Powers tray to overlap.
